MFC Maui Race
Â
The winds were a little gusty for the morning races and totally died out for the afternoon sailing. Â
The womens slalom was in the morning and I was on my Naish Slalom board and a 5.5 sail. Â
I am really getting to like the whole slalom division. Â I think I felt the most comfortable this weekend and kept scoring higher places every time we raced. Â I got a 5th, 3rd, and 2nd place which averaged out to 4th place in the end. Â The best I have done for this catagory. Â I was stoked!..and the womens division is pretty tough here. Â One mess up and your getting last! Â

Naish International Paddle Race
Maliko to Kahului Harbour (9.5 Miles)
Dean, Bernd, and Norm get ready for the race at Maliko
We had to paddle far out of Maliko to the start line, deep into the dark-blue water!
Robby’s angels get on the stand-up paddle boards too!
In 2 hours 15 minutes I reach the finish line at the canoe club in Kahului.
Finishing 4th in my division.
Dave Kalama finished 1st out of everybody, in just a little over an hour.
Pau Hana!
It was a long day out on the water and very exhausting.  I was happy the winds kicked in a bit to make the paddle a lot easier.  I went on my 10′6 Naish Board which isn’t really made for long distance races, so I can’t wait to try out a bigger, more racier board next year.  I think I could do a lot better with the right equipment.  I would also definitely take a  camel-pack with me next time too.  I was so thirsty half way through the race and all I could think about was water!  Makes me thirsty again just thinking about it! ha!
Over all it was a great day.  At the end I was worried about leaving my car in Maliko and just wanted to go back to make sure it was ok.  Then I got there and my car was unlocked and I thought Ah oh! Nothing seemed missing or anything inside and then I remember I just forgot to lock it!  It just sat there all day unlocked!  Crazy I know, but Lucky everything was just the way I left it!Â

All smiles
The days have been so amazingly beautiful here
No matter your hobby in or out of the water, Maui life is good!
Even a new dirt-bike tire can make you be “all smiles”!.. I guess?!!
At least for my brother it did.

Quicksilver Cup
Quicksilver Cup is the third race of the series here on Maui. Â The winds were perfect today. Â I did the waveboard division with my 4.7 and did the best I have done so far, I got 3rd place. Â Except, in the start of the race, right before the flag I jumped off a chop and broke the base. Â The jetski came and got me, I switched for a new base, and went back out just making it in time for the second race. Â I was glad I broke it where I did with the jetski there to come help me. Â If that would have happened at Ho’okipa it would have been a disaster!

Summer Waves on the north shore
The surf picked up a bit on the northshore lately and has been super fun and glassy. Â
Harry took these pics from the point of Ho’okipa.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT (AFTER YOU SURF)…
When things in your lives seem almost too much to handle,
 when 24 hours in a
day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2
 cups of coffee.
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some
 items in front of
him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very
 large and empty
mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He
 then asked the
students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured
 them into the jar.
He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open
 areas between the
golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jarwas
 full. They agreed
 it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it
 into the jar. Of
course, the sand filled up everything els e. He asked once
 more if the jar
was full. The students responded with an unanimous
 ’yes.’
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under
 the table and
poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling
 the empty space
between the sand. The students laughed.
’Now,’ said the professor as the laughter subsided,
 ’I want you to recognize
that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are
 theimportantthings–your family, your children, your
 health, your friends
and your favorite passions–and if everything else was lost
 and only they
remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job,
 your house and
your car. The sand is everything else–the small stuff.
 ’If you put the sand
into the jar first,’ he continued, ‘there is no
room for the pebbles or the
golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your
 time and energy on
the small stuff you will never have room for the things
 that are important
 to you.
’Pay attention to the things that are critical to your
 happiness. Play with
your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your
 spouse out to
dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean
 the house and
fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first–the
 things that really
matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.’
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the
 coffee
represented. The professor smiled. ‘I’m glad you
asked. It just goes to show
you that no matter how full your life may seem, there’s
 always room for a
couple of cups of coffee with a friend.’
